Opening Reception – September 21st, 2013

The HOUSE OF SAND photographs were taken in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys of Southern California. The two valleys overlap and dissolve into one another physically, culturally, and economically over a linear distance of about 200 miles.   The photographs show swimming pools, boats, automobiles and other objects that are used up and disassociated from their original intentions and meanings.  Collectively the images provide a context for the viewer to consider perceptions of cultural values, consumerism, politics and life cycles. The photographs raise questions about who we are and where we are headed while simultaneously speaking of the depth, richness and complexity of human experience.
